It’s a little quiet on the Q.T. front right now, but this interesting little interview with Michael Madsen was released today where he talks about the success of Quentin Tarantino‘s first film Reservoir Dogs and what it did for him. Apparently he didn’t think much of the film before it became as critically acclaimed as it did, which is an interesting thought. Here’s an excerpt:

The star revealed he had such little faith in ‘Reservoir Dogs’, he didn’t even go and see it when it was released. “I was a very young naive man at the time, working on what I thought was a small budget film but I got a whole career out of it.”

More after the break.

The interview below is provided by belfasttelegraph:

It grossed $2.8m at the box office and helped writer-director Quentin Tarantino hijack Hollywood.

But actor Michael Madsen, who played one of the most memorable scenes in film — dancing around a tied-up police officer wielding a razor blade — has revealed he earned only union rates for his role as Mister Blonde in hit film ‘Reservoir Dogs’.

“If I had even had 5pc of that film, I could have retired on the spot, and still put my five sons through college.

“But we all did it for Screen Actors Guild rates of $1,500 a week,” Mr Madsen told the Irish Independent.

The star revealed he had such little faith in ‘Reservoir Dogs’, he didn’t even go and see it when it was released. “I was a very young naive man at the time, working on what I thought was a small budget film but I got a whole career out of it.”

The 54-year-old was in Dublin for a special screening of ‘Reservoir Dogs’ in CHQ last night as part of the Jameson Cult Film Club.

He credits co-star Harvey Keitel, who did receive a fee for helping producers secure funding, for persuading him to join the cast.

But he hasn’t looked back since, with more Tarantino directed roles in ‘Kill Bill:Vol 1′ and ‘Kill Bill Vol 2′, and films including ‘Donnie Brasco’ and ‘Mulholland Falls’.

The CHQ was transformed into the warehouse from Reservoir Dogs, for the special screening of the movie in front of 500 film fans.

Quite interesting.

Don’t even ask me, I’ve got no idea how this is going to affect Robert Rodriguez‘ plans for Sin City 2 which he had recently fully confirmed. Anyway, Machete 2, aka Machete Kills will probably start shooting this April, and a pretty cool teaser poster has already been released. Oh, and it will also carry a trailer for a third Machete film, Machete Kills Again… in Space!. Crazy stuff.

More info on the film, as well as the full poster, after the break.

Comingsoon reports:

Rodriguez had announced last summer that Machete Kills was greenlit and will include a Grindhouse-style trailer for the third (at the moment fictional) entry in the “Machete” franchise, Machete Kills Again… In Space!.

The new film is said to have Machete teaming with the U.S. Government to take on a Mexican drug cartel and a James Bond-style villain who seeks world domination with a satellite weapon.

And the poster is down below, click for full size:

Your thoughts?..

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Machete to be honest. Hope the second one will be better, though. And the concept for the third one sounds awesome.

Briefly: Really just a kick ass interview with Christoph Waltz on Django Unchained and his working relationship with Quentin Tarantino.

“I revel in his writing, I really do,” he says. “You can really play. You don’t just have to say it, you can do all things with it, turn it upside down. It will not fall apart. It does not require one singular delivery on which it depends. He’s a genius. I am completely, unconditionally devoted.”

Full interview after the break.

The interview below is provided by conventrytelegraph:

AUSTRIAN-BORN actor Christoph Waltz finally found Hollywood fame at the age of 55.

His expressions are able to suggest a simmering undercurrent of menace that could erupt at any moment. It made him perfect as a nasty Nazi in Inglourious Basterds, the gangster villain in Green Hornet, a cruel circus owner in Water For Elephants and the scheming Cardinal Richlieu in The Three Musketeers.

His latest role is in Roman Polanski’s Carnage, an adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s hit play God of Carnage, which is released in cinemas this weekend.

It centres on two Brooklyn couples – played by Waltz, Kate Winslet, John C Reilly and Jodie Foster – who meet to discuss a fight between their sons in a park. Slowly, and under the influence of alcohol, the adults’ decorum disintegrates into an all-out showdown.

Waltz, whose role has been described as a gleeful ringmaster delighting in the savagery beneath everyone’s civilised veneer, told The Sunday Times: “It’s my comedy. I consider this character the only one I’ve played with his two bits together. Kate’s, too, a little bit. She’s more erratic. But he’s the only one who doesn’t sway. He sticks to his reality.”

Next he is reuniting with Inglourious Basterds director Tarantino for Django Unchained, which he resumes shooting this month.

It follows an escaped slave (Jamie Foxx) who set out to free his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from a sadistic plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Waltz plays a bounty hunter called Dr King Schultz who helps Foxx with his mission.

“I’m trying to be very aware of not repeating myself,” Waltz said in the newspaper interview. “It’s a different story, a different character, a different movie. I’ve played that other character. I’m not going to slip it under the door just because it was successful. But I have to be a little careful that I am not going too far the other side – too restrained.”

As is usual with Tarantino, it will be a long shoot. “It’s not like Carnage,” says Waltz. “That was two weeks of rehearsal, then we started shooting, four actors in one room, come rain or shine.

“With this it’s the opposite. We need snow – there is no snow. So the whole operation shuts down and moves to Wyoming.”

He reveals that during rehearsal for one scene (a “rodeo-like situation”) he came off a horse and broke his pelvis and was put back together by a surgeon he describes as a genius.

Waltz says his work in Inglourious Basterds succeeded because his obscurity meant even the other actors didn’t know him and weren’t aware of what he could do; he was asked by Tarantino to tone things down when rehearsing with his co-stars and those rehearsals were kept to a minimum. This meant the cast didn’t get too relaxed with each other and the film kept its memorable tension and unpredictability.

The plan worked and gave the actor his big break, not to mention a best supporting actor Oscar and several similar awards at other ceremonies. As a result he moved to Los Angeles and, not surprisingly, he says he’s a great fan of Tarantino.

“I revel in his writing, I really do,” he says. “You can really play. You don’t just have to say it, you can do all things with it, turn it upside down. It will not fall apart. It does not require one singular delivery on which it depends. He’s a genius. I am completely, unconditionally devoted.”

He reveals that the two have now become good friends, meeting at the director’s Mulholland Drive mansion to watch rare 35mm prints of old films salvaged from closed-down cinemas, with Tarantino afterwards offering his expert insights and observations.

On other occasions they will “meet for dinner without a single sentence being uttered about movies”, says Waltz. In LA, and in Tarantino’s home especially, that’s known as a ‘comfortable silence.’

Django Unchained is released on December 26, 2012. Among the cast is Tom Savini, as we exclusively revealed in October 2011.

Hm, this is strange news. A few weeks back we reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to play a part in Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming Django Unchained. The news seemed so great, we pretty much just accepted it as fact. Now it turns out that it might not all be as firm as it seemed, as Joseph was recently interviewed about his upcoming projects, and he also got to talk a bit about how he’s not sure if he’s going to make it into Django Unchained, as well as about how much of a Tarantino fan he really is.

Read what Joseph had to say about the situation after the break.

The excerpt below is provided by Coventry Telegraph (this one’s for you, Jeff ;) )

Although reported to have been cast in Quentin Tarantino‘s now-in-production Django Unchained, the actor’s response indicates it’s not yet a done deal: “I hope so, I really want to do it, man.

“Tarantino has always been one of my very, very favourites, and just getting to know him a little bit has been such a thrill for me. He’s exactly who I wanted him to be, and that doesn’t always happen when you meet your heroes. He’s totally that guy. He’s so enthusiastic, good-natured, and just loves f***in’ movies.”

Well, it’s awesome that you’re so enthusiastic Joseph, and I’d feel the same, but what’s up with the part now?

He seemed a little ambiguous about whether he got the part or not, and for some reason the “interview” didn’t really investigate any further. However, I hope that it’s only formalities at this point, and that he will end up making it into the film. Joseph is one of my favorite young actors out there at the moment.

Your thoughts? Like Joseph? What to see him in Django Unchained? Post us a comment down below in the comment section!

You know what they say about Quentin Tarantino‘s movies, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em. Well, judging from the title you can imagine Michel Gondry‘s take on Tarantino’s films. Yeah, he doesn’t exactly hate them, but I was quite surprised by the relatively harsh words that Gondry used when talking about Q.T. Here’s an excerpt:

I mean, he is a brilliant director, much more skilled than me. You see great performances, great images. Everything is great, only the message is dangerous. It’s all revenge and vengeance, about being mean and cynical.

Hm. Read more after the break.

The excerpt below is provided by indie wire:

In the same interview, Gondry reveals that while he admires the skill of Quentin Tarantino as a director, his movies are just too edgy and perhaps immoral for him to deal with. Explaining that his son, when he’s angry, will tell him that Tarantino is a better director than he is, Gondry reveals, “He forced me to go see ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2‘ and I walked out of it, just like every time I go and see a movie by Quentin, besides ‘Pulp Fiction‘ – I finished that one. But all the others are too mean for me. I mean, he is a brilliant director, much more skilled than me. You see great performances, great images. Everything is great, only the message is dangerous. It’s all revenge and vengeance, about being mean and cynical. I would almost say that these movies are not made for my son, but it is exactly those movies that young people love. Even if they are too young they just sneak into it.”

It’s a valid assessment, and Gondry is being honest that ultimately, Tarantino’s movies just aren’t for him. On the flipside, Tarantino ranked “The Green Hornet” under consideration for his contentious best of the year that he dropped earlier this month.

Hm. Of course Quentin’s movies are all about revenge, quite a lot of them are, and those that are not complete revenge flicks often feature scenes or instances of revenge.

But do they send out a dangerous message?

What do you think about that? It’s the old do violent movies make violent people question, so you don’t have to answer that if you’re tired of it. But what about the simple fact that Gondry talked this way about Q.T. in an interview? You rarely hear directors badmouth each other like this.

First things first. Quentin Tarantino has been shooting his new flick Django Unchained in Santa Clarita, CA during the last couple of days. The town offers a couple of good reasons to be shooting there, including an awesome looking western set. This is what Quentin had to say about his time there:

“It’s a blast shooting here. Most other western towns look like dollhouses. This has the complete look. It’s fantastic.”

Surely, Quentin’s talking about the difference between some American westerns that were more polished, and the harsher Italian spaghetti westerns. But that’s not all, apparently Quentin has been playing one particular song by Jim Croce throughout his time on set, similarly to the way Sergio Leone did it with Ennio Morricone’s music.

You can listen to the song after the break.

The quote and the info regarding the song are provided by movie web.

The song is down below, it’s ‘I Got a Name’ by Jim Croce:

Personally, I’ve listened to the song a few times now, and I totally dig. And I can’t wait to see if it makes it into Q.T.’s film, or if it was just used for atmospheric reasons.

Your thoughts? What do you think about the set picture, and most importantly, do you like the song by Jim Croce?

Greg Nicotero has been working with Quentin Tarantino for ages. Of course they worked together on all of Q.T.’s main films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and of course also his most recent Inglourious Basterds. Now, MTV has done an awesome little interview with Nicotero where he gets to talk about his past working relationship with Tarantino, as well as his expectations about Django Unchained. Here’s an excerpt:

“I love the script for ‘Django,’ I think it’s great,” he said. “Jaimie Foxx and Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio, Kurt Russell, Kerry Washington, it’s what I love about Quentin is that he is and will forever be an old school filmmaker.”

Watch the full interview embedded after the break.

Pretty cool, or?

Of course we don’t really get to learn anything new about Django Unchained, but as it’s been the case with most of the recent “interviews” that were really just a couple of nice words about Q.T. and his style, it’s getting us super excited about the new movie!

Are you a fan of Nicotero’s? Have you been following his work at all, or have you not paid much attention to him in the past? I have to say, he’s quite a key figure in the production of both Quentin’s as well as Robert Rodriguez’ films. His contributions to From Dusk Till Dawn were quite amazing.

Remember that party Jamie Foxx was spotted at the other day, wearing a lovely beard that he’s probably growing for Django Unchained? Well, there was a little more to that story than we originally thought, and that is that Jamie actually said a couple of pretty cool things about Django Unchained and its significance.

You can read what he said after the break.

The excerpt below is provided by showbizz411:

Foxx is shooting Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.” He told me, “This movie will be historic. People will be talking about in 20 years.”

Well, of course we didn’t expect that Jamie would say that the movie is going to suck, but this is an awesome little quote nevertheless. Definitely getting more and more excited about Django day by day.

Is Django Unchained your most anticipated film of 2012? If not, which one is?
